As part of the community component on the Minnesota State Arts Board grant I received this year, I will be traveling to several cities outside the Twin Cities metro area to talk about publishing, writing, and the vagaries of the literary life (which makes it sound far more glamorous than it is). One of these events will take place at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts in Hutchinson, Minnesota. This event is free, so if you're in the area, or even anywhere close, consider joining us! More information on the seminar is below.

"Publishing Confidential: A Crash Course on Agents, Queries, Proposals, and the Changing Publishing Landscape."

How do you get a literary agent? What is a slush pile and how can you get out of it? What does it take to get a book deal?

The path to publication can seem mysterious and impenetrable to aspiring writers, especially in our quickly shifting publishing landscape. Novelist and former acquisitions editor Ashley Shelby offers local writers a two-hour seminar on the ins and outs of the publishing world. Writers of all interests and skill levels are invited to participate in this free event.
