As a full-service writers’ studio, MCWW offers ongoing instructor-led writing groups for writers interested in workshop and critique without lectures and in-class assignments. In addition, MCWW offers space in our sunny Hopkins studio to other writing groups, as well as tutors and teachers of small classes, for a reasonable monthly fee.  

 

Memoir Writing Group

MCWW Director Ashley Shelby leads a weekly memoir writing group, meeting for two hours every Monday. Two writers submit each week, up to 25 pages each submission. Your work will be thoroughly workshopped by your colleagues and teacher in an intimate and warm roundtable discussion, and you will receive copies of each submitted manuscript from your colleagues (critiqued on the page), as well as a thorough edit and critique from the instructor.

Writers from our Memoir Writing Group

Interested writers should be able to commit to thoroughly reading and critiquing up to 50 pages of memoir per week, except the weeks during which the writer herself turns in work.

 

Instructor will also provide take-home assignments, which she will critique, for interested writers.

MCWW Studio Space for Existing Writing Groups, Tutors, Etc.

Mill City Writers’ Workshop operates out of a sunny, second-floor studio in Hopkins, at the corner of Sixth Avenue North and Main Street. The space is available during the week and, by special arrangement, on weekends, for local writing groups, teachers, or tutors. The space includes

· Conference table with six conference rolling chairs, plus a hardback chair for the

instructor

· Coffeemaker, coffee, and mugs

· A large standing whiteboard with markers

· A shaded balcony

· Ample parking both on-street and in our parking lot

MCWW’s studio is located less than one block from several cafes and restaurants, and is a half-block from Metro Transit bus stops for regular routes directly into Minneapolis and out to the western suburbs.

 

Fee information

The studio rents for $10 an hour.

Payment can be made by the month or by the semester (MCWW semesters are 6 weeks)

Studio can be made available for one-time events as well.
